 
Midwives and labor doulas favor a holistic approach to pregnancy.
Midwives provide prenatal, postpartum and newborn
care, and are often used instead of an obstetrician during the delivery.
Labor doulas provide emotional and physical support for a laboring woman
and her family, and are usually used in addition to a medical doctor, and to prevent the need for
pharmacological pain relief.
Be sure to check that the midwife/doula you choose is certified by an accredited organization.
Your midwife should be a Certified Nurse-Midwife - a registered nurse
that has completed required training at a school accredited by the
American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Doula your choose should be certified by an accredited organization such as
Doulas of North America (DONA),
or your hospital/birthing center.
Schedule your consultation with your midwife/doula as early as possible.
